Frequently Asked Questions

1. What's the difference between a jump ring and a split ring?

A jump ring is a single loop used to connect parts; it is recommended to open them sideways for easy use and maintaining their shape. A split ring works like a keyring, allowing you to connect components without needing solder to keep it secure.

2. Can I solder jump rings closed?

Yes. Make sure you use pliers to bring both ends as flush as possible to each other to avoid the need of excess solder to close the gap or needing to expose the ring to more heat than necessary.

3. What sizes do jump rings come in?

We have light jump rings made from 0.4mm wire in 2mm and 3mm then our range comprises mostly of heavier jump rings starting off around 3.3mm outside diameter made from 0.75mm wire up to 7mm O.D. from 1.1mm wire. Larger sizes up to 12mm O.D. from 1.4mm wire are available in 9ct yellow and sterling silver only. 4. What is a link lock? As the name implies, this is a type of connector that joins links but it differs to a jump ring becuase you can mechanically close the ring with its specially designed collet so solder isn't needed.
