Bec Seddon

Rebecca (Bec) Seddon was working in the family signwriting business and was looking for a creative outlet, so she embarked on a series of jewellery-making lessons with family friend and jeweller, Ian Humphrys.

Bec instantly fell in love with working with metal and decided to declare the next year a ‘gap year’ so that she could pursue her new interest.

“I became engrossed in learning and creating from my jewellery bench at home. By the end of the year I was selling pieces at the local markets. My following grew, which led to launching my website and ultimately opening the St Prin Studio.”

Bec explains that a rescue greyhound called Princess, or Prin for short, used to be her constant companion, even at work. When Princess passed away, Bec’s mum referred to her as a saint. So when looking for a name for her business, Bec recalled these words and St Prin Studio was born.

This year Bec’s mentor Ian has joined the St Prin team bringing his years of experience with him.

“Ian is fantastic with vintage pieces, restoration and shares my passion for working with pearls,” Bec says enthusiastically.

Recently Bec purchased an Orion laser engraver from AJS, to expand their personalised offerings.

Bec says excitedly, “I'm lucky to have some CAD design skills from my days in the signwriting business when I used to design boutique signage for homes and the wedding industry. I have so many design ideas to get stuck into once I master operating the engraver.”

When asked about the direction of her business, Bec says, “St Prin has a specific aesthetic that is everyday wear for modern women. I'm a sucker for pearls but I'm particularly passionate about creating personalised and sentimental jewellery that will be passed from generation to generation celebrating special occasions, people and milestones.”

On marketing, Bec says, “Social media has been a very effective marketing tool for us, especially during the lockdown periods. Instagram and Facebook directly connects you with people who are interested in you, so posting consistently and promptly answering messages is so important. I've found using links when posting is an effective method to direct clients to the website. Best of all, social media is free!"
